Policemen now have to undergo drug tests before handling firearms
The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, has directed that
drug tests for hard drugs should be conducted on urine samples of
policemen before they are allowed to handle firearms and lethal weapons.
This decision was initiated due to the extra judicial killings of
civilians by members of the Police force, especially at check-points and
other public places.
The drugs test is to make sure that policemen are mentally and
emotionally fit to handle weapons and not use them indiscriminately.
