Cameroonian Soldiers Accused Of Killing Nigerian Civilians
An entire family has reportedly been killed after Cameroonian soldiers hunting Boko Haram fighters indiscriminately fired weapons, Nigerian villagers reported.
The incident followed strings of reports alleging that
Cameroonian soldiers in their bid to win the war against Boko Haram especially in the border region were killing civilians and burning Nigerian villages.
Although the Cameroonian government denied the claim, the insurgency has affected relationship between the two countries especially due to attacks in the border region.
The deputy commander of a civilian self-defense group, Muhammad Abba said on Tuesday, January 19 that he got a call from relatives who described how a family of four lost their lives after a grenade exploded on the roof of their grass hut in the village of Ashigashiya on Monday, January 18.
Abba also claimed that two elderly men were also dragged out and shot in the outskirt of the village.
The allegation is part of other reports by some refugees who claimed Cameroonian soldiers stole livestock and killed about 130 people in the previous year. The Nigerian military as also been accused of similar offences in the fight against Boko Haram.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have concluded plans to take over the battle against Boko Haram insurgents from the Nigerian military by deploying 5000 officers.
