$2.1 Billion Arms Deal: Femi Falana Lahes Out At Chief Falae



Femi Falana, one of Nigeria’s most prominent lawyer and human rights activist, has lashed out at Chief Olu Falae for his alleged role in the mismanagement of $2.1 billion that was meant for arms procurement.

The former chairman of the National Conscience Party (NCP), said that Falae and others like him, stand the chance of being labelled criminals because of the alleged funds which they collected from the Colonel Sambo Dasuki, Nigeria’s ex-National Security Adviser (NSA).

Falana made the disclosure at the 12th Gani Fawehinmi annual lecture/symposium which held on Friday, January 15,  at the Airport hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
The advocate reminded Chief Falae that he would be made to dance to the music of the law’s wrath if he insists on not returning the alleged N100 million which he (Falae) collected from the embattled NSA.
Falana informed that to saying one was is not aware of the source of the funds he was given, dose not make him wholly guiltless in a financial crime. He stressed that it is stipulated in Nigeria’s tenets that when a person gets information that he or she has shared in a loot unknowingly, then the individual has a duty to return the funds as to absolve him or herself of any blames.
The Ekiti governorship candidate in the 2011 gubernatorial election, urged Nigerians to lend their voice to the call for justice, stressing that the people cannot fold their arms and watch certain individuals rob them blind.

Chief Falae who earlier acknowledged receipt of a N100 million supposedly part of the funds allocated for purchase of arms against Boko Haram, had said that he won’t refund the money he collected from Chief Tony Anenih, which allegedly came from the former NSA.
Falae claimed that the money in question, was given to him for onward delivery to his party, to assist sell former president, Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.
