Army Set to Battle Biafra Agitators, N’Delta Militants

The Nigerian Army has resolved to find effective strategies to tackle Biafran agitators, Niger Delta militancy and other related groups that may pose internal security challenges for the country
This was one of the major decisions reached through a communique signed at the end of the 2015 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held in Dutse, Jigawa.

To this end, the Army advocated for joint training and contingency planning between the military and other security agencies with a view to tackle emerging threats to national security.
The Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Army Headquarters, Maj-Gen. Jack Ogunewe, who read the communiqué said the Army acknowledged the increasing burden of tackling the nation’s security threats but promised to devise ways to manage the situation.
According to Ogunewe, adequate measures would be taken to address the challenges before they degenerate to unmanageable levels.
Speaking further, Ogunewe said the Army has seen the need to tap from the experiences of retired military operational commanders with the view to enhancing its ongoing operations in the country.
He also noted the existing language barrier between Nigeria military and its neighbouring French-speaking countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) with resolve to bridge the gap through a robust capacity building programme.
