If you destroy Tompolo, many others like him will arise –Niger-Delta groups warn FG

If you destroy Tompolo, many others like him will arise –Niger-Delta groups warn FG

niger-delta-militants
Three non-governmental organizations based in the Niger-Delta have advised the Federal Government to thread softly as regards the prosecution of former General Officer Commanding, GOC, of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo.
The NGOs namely: Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, the Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, and the Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, in separate interviews with Sunday Tribune warned that should government succeed in destroying Tompolo, others like him will emerge.
Leaders of CEPEJ, FHRACC and IPDI, Comrades Sheriff Mulade, Alaowei Cleric and Austin Ozobo respectively spoke against the backdrop of Friday’s ruling of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos that properties, save one, of the
embattled Tompolo be confiscated in response to his failure to honour court summons.
Comrade Mulade said the Federal Government, represented by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, should be wary of throwing the region into another round of crises in the name of going after Tompolo.
He said since it was obvious that the government was hell-bent in humiliating and breaking the Gbaramatu chief, it should be reminded that “If you destroy Tompolo, many more Tompolos will arise.”
Noting that the court order did not come as a surprise to the Ijaws, “we are, however, skeptical in the Gbaramatu kingdom why EFCC and the courts are after Tompolo as a person. It connotes a lot to us as Ijaws. The claims of the court is that there are illegal transactions. But they should follow due process while they go after Tompolo.”
The CEPEJ leader alleged that Tompolo is being persecuted because of some political elites in the Niger Delta and beyond who believe that his towering influence in the region could jeopardize their political fortunes.
According to him, “Their fear is that Tompolo is becoming too powerful to some political elites in the Niger Delta. With his influence, it will be difficult for some of them to have full support of Niger Deltans to actualise their political dreams.
“But Nigerian politicians should be more afraid of corruption and it’s go sequences than Tompolo. Tompolo is not a warlord, he is a simple man, very approachable.
“He fought for the liberation of Niger Delta. Those persecuting him should have a rethink. He brought development to the Niger Delta and any development in any region is a development in Nigeria,” he disclosed.
Mulade further stated that the former militant leader was ready to appear in court as far as it is devoid of humiliation and persecution, adding that the wanted former militant and Gbaramatu kingdom should not be perceived as confronting the Federal Government.
While commending President Muhammadu Buhari on his success so far in his anti-corruption crusade, he warned him against allowing the Niger Delta region boil again by following the rule of law in its prosecution business.
Also speaking, Comrade Ozobo expressed disappointment at the way the FG is going about prosecuting Tompolo, saying the recent seizure of his assets was an order taken too far.
“We are apprehensive and it is a total disappointment to seize his properties, it will only escalate the matter as the fragile peace in the region is being threatened.
“The order to confiscate Tompolo’s properties is ill-conceived. He has engaged the services of a lawyer to do the needful, noting that he would eventually appear in court. Nobody sees fire and jump into it.
“The order to seize his assets is barbaric, obnoxious and vindictive. It is also highly provocative and will be seen as declaration of war against the Ijaw people.
“We know Buhari is not happy with the Ijaws and some Deltans because of their roles in his election,” Ozobo stated.
On his part, Comrade Cleric, who described the seizure order as having exposed the EFCC’s plans to persecute Tompolo rather than prosecuting him, said: “It’s now clear to us that the anti-corruption agency is only prosecuting political vendetta against Tompolo. There is no law empowering the EFCC to attach another person’s property. This is a backdoor approach sought by the Commission to force the judicial pendulum against its assailants without recourse to the due process of law.
“The Court, as the last hope of the common man, ought not to have granted such unpopular application which end product is calculated to perverse the cause of justice.
“We hold in high esteem the Nigerian judicial system and it is our resolve that the judicial sanctity must always be honoured. However, we are forced to vent our anger on the Court for granting this baseless application which is not only lacking merit but also devoid of legal foundation. This is the height of judicial recklessness,” he added.

OMG!!! Boss Damages 13-Year-Old Apprentice’s Private Parts In Lagos (Photos)

OMG!!! Boss Damages 13-Year-Old Apprentice’s Private Parts In Lagos (Photos)Victim

Thirteen-year-old Pelumi Fawibe, an apprentice photographer, has yet to recover from pains after his boss, Olajide Olaoye, reportedly damaged his scrotum while he was beating him with a wire for being obstinate.
Our correspondent learnt that the boy had been living with the boss for three years before the incident happened on Sunday, February 15, at his shop in Ile Epo bus stop, Badagry, Lagos.
Fawibe was said to have been admitted to the Badagry General Hospital, while the boss was arrested by the police from Area K, but was released afterwards.
Residents around Olaoye’s shop told PUNCH Metro that on Monday that the boss had consistently assaulted the boy.
An eyewitness, who identified himself only as Gbade, said the extent of the injury to Fawibe’s private parts prompted people to alert the police.
He said, “The boy’s scrotum became swollen and was bleeding after he beat him up. He claimed the wire hit the boy’s private parts by accident. We invited the police who arrested him, but he had been released. He said the boy was stubborn. Is that how to discipline?”
It was gathered that the man had told Fawibe to wash his clothes on that day, but the apprentice allegedly went to play with his friends and returned in the afternoon.
The action was said to have infuriated Olaoye who instructed him to kneel down and raise a piece of stone. It was learnt that the stone fell from Fawibe’s hands on the head of a boy in front of him.
The apprentice, who spoke in Yoruba, said, “I am learning photography under him (Olaoye). He is my uncle and I have been living with him for three years.
“The stone fell from my hands because I was tired. He picked a wire and started beating me until it hit me in the scrotum. The spot is still paining me. I don’t want to live with him again; I want to go back to my mother.”
However, the boss said Fawibe was notorious for coming home late, stealing and absconding from the shop. He said the injury to his private parts was accidental, adding that he would take him back to his mother soon.
“He is a very stubborn boy. His mother brought him to me three years ago. I enrolled him in a primary school and he is also my apprentice. He is in Basic 3 now whereas he ought to have finished, but he is dull. His stubbornness provoked me to beat him up. I mean well for him. He usually returned home late.
“That Sunday, I told him to wash his clothes at the shop. He left home and went somewhere else to play. He came back in the afternoon and I was angry with him. I told him to raise a stone and assigned a boy to flog him if he did not raise his hands properly.
“He let the stone fall on the boy’s head and that was why I beat him up. I didn’t intend to harm his private parts. It was a mistake. I would have taken him back to his mother, but he is still receiving treatment at the hospital and I want him to recover fully,” he said.
Olaoye’s brother, Seyi, said the matter had been resolved.
The Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmos, promised to get back to correspondent with comments on the incident but had yet to do so as of press time.

I Can Help Buhari Achieve Lasting Economic Development – Okonjo Iweala

I Can Help Buhari Achieve Lasting Economic Development – Okonjo Iweala

Nigeria’s Former Coordinating Minister for the Economy Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has enumerated how the government of a developing country can attain sustained development. Speaking in a recent interview, the ex Finance Minister identified structural reforms, institution building and the need to achieve macro-stability as the requirements to achieve sustainable development in any nation. She stressed that any policy maker that wants to sustain development, and leave a lasting impact, really needs to put in systems, processes, and institutions that would drive development going forward. Responding to a question on how the immediate past government she worked under was able to drive growth, she said they looked at “the missing pieces,” and resolved that in order to drive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), “you need to diversify your economy away from one resource, you need to strengthen your revenue management framework, you need to present leakages.”
“We put into place financial management systems with biometrics that really began to build a framework that would take us away from cash management with the problems of corruption and leakages to electronic management systems for finance. “The second thing we tried to do or beginning to do was some of the structural reforms that would be necessary for the economy. We tried to look at what were the biggest sources of fiscal drain, we looked at enterprises, and we looked at those places in the economy where we needed to tackle issues that could unleash private sector investment.”
She explained that the Development Bank of Nigeria was established to support operators of small and medium scale enterprise (SMEs) so that they would be able to grow. “This is another trend that is critically important: how do you foster growth within an economy, how do you help informal enterprises to grow and create more jobs, because often it’s not the huge businesses that create the most jobs. So, building an institution that can begin to plug the gap and be sustainable – the same as many countries have done: the German’s have KfW, the American’s have the Small Business Administration.
“We don’t have these kind of things in our countries, and because we’re missing these institutions that means we continue to struggle. So the second lesson that I’d say we learned that is important for development is to really look for what is missing institutionally from your economic landscape, and try to put them in, because without those institutions built, you will not be able to develop. And then undertake the right structural reforms in those regulatory reforms, freeing up space for business that will enable your private investment to take place, because the government create the jobs needed,” she added

Abia North Re-run: Kalu’s Candidacy Cuts Across Party Boundaries – Eze Chikamnayo

Abia North Re-run: Kalu’s Candidacy Cuts Across Party Boundaries – Eze ChikamnayoOUK VV3

Ahead of Abia North rerun election, there is no contesting the fact that the candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and former Governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu is the man to beat. The image of the eminent business man and politician looms large and cuts across party lines, religious boundaries and ethnic beliefs.
It is little wonder he is being described as the heartbeat of the people of  Abia North zone in the forth coming re-run election scheduled for March 5, 2016.
The Director of Media and Publicity of the Orji Uzor Kalu campaign organization, Chief Eze Chikamnayo, who stated the above  yesterday in a Radio Nigeria Pacesetter FM Programme in  Umuahia, said  the former Governor has no rival in the forthcoming election.
According to him,  stakeholders in the zone have unanimously adopted him as the preferred candidate even as respondents and callers on the programme called on the people of Abia North  to vote Dr Kalu to give the zone its deserved place not only in Abia but also in Nigeria.
Speaking about his campaign train, the former Commissioner for information said that there is no nook and cranny of Abia North he has not personally visited during his campaign.
“As you will see, the love exhibited to him by the people, the people of Abia North really need the person of Dr Orji Uzor Kalu. He has visited Itu Mbauzo, Ugwueke, Alayi, Nneato, Acha in Isuikwuato, etc. We were in the market square, in the hall, in the villages, hamlet etc. I think that is how it is supposed to be. It is not about the candidate per say, it is about the people, how much they needed him because of how he has touched their lives at one time or the other.
Reacting on some comments made by non- Abia North citizens, Chikamnayo said: “the rerun election is an Abia North business, and I think all the candidates are doing their thing. I have heard some people who are not from Abia North trying to make this issue of the election their business, crying more than the bereaved, and being more catholic than the Pope. They should be aware that this election is an Abia North affair, not an Abia State election; everybody must know that.
“Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State is a known figure, who has served Abia people in a higher capacity. As the former governor, he has the clout, the contact; he is experienced to get for our people what they want from the Senate. He is somebody that is capable of reaching out on behalf of his people.
“In other zones of the state, they are fielding their best candidates; is Abia North going to field their third eleven when our first eleven is available.  The issue of a political party should not come into play here now; all we need to do is to rally round a man who will represent us for our common interest. For us in Abia North to move forward, we need the person of Orji Uzor Kalu.
“The candidacy of Orji Uzor Kalu cuts across party boundaries, both party leaders, traditional rulers, church leaders etc. “We met and decided that we should forget our differences and support him for what he is and what he stands for as the true son of Abia North Senatorial zone.  I am not in the same party with him, but I am working for him, because we have common interest, so are many other people from other parties. It is not about him, it is about what he can do for the people of this zone at the senate.  He has the clout, the contact, the experience, the exposure; it is not as if others who want to go to Abuja are not good enough; the point is that they are not good enough for the Senate.
“The quality of a man that we all find in Orji Uzor Kalu is the type that you will send there and go to sleep because you don’t need to push him around to get what we want”.
Chikamnayo said that the PPA candidate is the only person among the contestants that has gone to all the 98 ABSIEC wards in the zone, adding: “there is no part of Abia North that he has not visited. If you see the reception, conviviality, you will know that Chief Dr Orji Uzor Kalu is the man to beat. From Ututu, Acha, we were in markets, Churches, etc. Those opposing OUK are meddlesome interlopers. They are more catholic than the pope.”
He explained that all over the zone, the awareness is high and the people are excited that Dr Kalu is contesting. “As you leave this place, as soon as you move to Ubani Ibeku  to Uzuakoli, you will know that the awareness is much.
According to him, “in law we talk of locus. We have the locus to present Orji Uzor as Abia North candidate for the Senate. Chief Orji Uzor Kalu is the former Governor of Abia State; he has foresight, he has clout, contact, experience that we need in the Senate. A senator who must deliver, he is a senator with clout, contact.”
Explaining further, he said that “Abia South has chosen its best candidate in Enyinnaya Abaribe just as Abia Central chose former Governor T. A Orji. Abia North stakeholders met in Ohafia and decided that we should do away with political label and go for the content of the wrap. We agreed that our best should be put forward. That was why his campaign is populated by people of different political parties. I am in APC but I am working for OUK. Traditional rulers, religious leaders met and decided to work for the common good of the Abia North.
“We don’t want people who will go to Abuja to answer names. Abia South has put their best foot forward. We are talking about issues, not sentiments or whims and caprices of people.”
Chikamnayo said that as opportunity must meet preparation, the campaign team of Dr Kalu has gone through the nooks and cranny of Abia North. “Now, Abia North is ravaged by erosion menace. The whole of Abia North even travelling from Ututu to Ohafia is like traveling to the end of the world.
“We need somebody who will go to the Senate and tell the people, this is what we need. Sombody was in the House of Representatives for eight years and could not do the road that passes through his community. He should tell us what he did that Arochukwu and Ohafia cannot go to their communities by road.
“ For somebody to go to House of Reps and wants to go to the Senate, he must tell us what he did in Reps. Pius Anyim was in the Senate only once and he brought Julius Berger to build their road. Ike Ekweremadu, go and see what he has done for his people. Those opposed to OUK must know that whatever wrong he has done, there are others who have done worst things.”
He described the reception in the campaign as contagious saying that some people have canonized OUK. His words: “OUK gave free education; OUK built the only road  in LERU, Lomnara and Nneato. If you go there and say OUK will not go to the Senate, they will kill you. To the people of Abia North, OUK still remains the best.”
Responding to question on how to ensure that the election is not manipulated, he said that transition chairmen who are used as job men will not be able to do the work this time around because “the fuse for the rigging machine will be removed.”
He added: “ The problem we have in this country is governance emergence process. I know the character of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu. I don’t believe that he will work against the wishes of the people of Abia North”, he emphasized.

Massive job loss ‘coming in 4 weeks’

Massive job loss ‘coming in 4 weeks’

Babatunde Odunayo, pioneer CEO of Honeywell Flour Mills, says many companies in Nigeria will begin to shut down over the next four to six weeks. In an interview with CNBC Africa, Odunayo said that it was not the best time for anyone to be president of Nigeria, adding that devaluation would be harmful to industry.
He said many companies planning expansion had borrowed money in dollars, and remain in a very difficult position to pay back. “People committed to expansion projects at 170, 178, and they thought this is profitable, let’s do it, let’s borrow. They borrowed $30 million or 40, 50; the devaluation difference alone can send them packing,” said Odunayo, a member of the Nigerian Economic Summit group and the chairman, board of directors at FBN Mortgage. “So industry does not support devaluation. But industry thinks government should relax its policies. It’s not the best time to clamp on other sources of dollars.
“If oil was selling at $100 or more, you can say OK, if you don’t do it through the central bank, I don’t want to know you, because I don’t even know the source of your money.” He said government policies mandate that if any company must use dollars outside the CBN, it must show it to CBN as an inflow. “How many companies in Nigeria earn foreign currency as an inflow into a dom account?” he queried, adding that industry has “four weeks, maybe six weeks” before “significant closure and loss of employment”.
Odunayo added that it was an error on the part of the CBN to explicitly announce that it would no longer fund bureau de change operators. “That sent the naira rate packing. You don’t need to go and make such announcement. They can go tomorrow and say; ‘now we shall begin to sell some limited amount to bureau de change’. Whether you give $50,000 or $10,000, the fact is that you’re selling something. “It would reduce the pressure, the reduction in pressure is not commensurate to what you give; it’s the relax atmosphere that makes the naira go down.”

POLICE ARREST 13 SUSPECTS WITH FAKE INTERNATIONAL PASSPORTS

POLICE ARREST 13 SUSPECTS WITH FAKE INTERNATIONAL PASSPORTS

The Kano State Police command has arrested 13 persons with fake international passports and ECOWAS travel certificates.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammad Katsina disclosed this on Tuesday in Kano, while briefing Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje.
He said the suspects, who were on their way to Libya, were apprehended at Kwana Dangora village in Benefit Local Government Area of the state.
“The suspects are four females and nine males; their mission was to travel to Libya, but the investigation will reveal what they want to go there to do,” he said.
The commissioner said from January to date, the command had also arrested a total of 45 other suspects, including armed robbers, vehicle thieves and cattle rustlers, among others.
Katsina said the command had recovered a large quantity of cocaine powder with estimated value of about N2 billion.
He said other items recovered include 1,068 cartons of unregistered intoxicating drugs worth N600 million, in addition to large quantity of Indian hemp worth about N250 million.
“The command was also able to recover eight arms, 23 motor vehicles, 43 motorcycles and 250 bags of right rice.
“The rest are 41 cows, 12 goats, seven sheep and N13.7 million cash,” he said.
In his remarks, Ganduje commended the commissioner for his efforts in the fight against criminals in the state.
He, however, called on courts in the state to ensure that the suspects were prosecuted appropriately in order to serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate committing the same crime.

Ifeanyi Ubah threatens to name those behind forex crisis in Nigeria

Ifeanyi Ubah threatens to name those behind forex crisis in Nigeria

No assassination attempt on Ifeanyi Ubah - Aide
The Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas, Ifeanyi Ubah, has threatened to unmask those behind current foreign exchange crisis facing the nation.
This is coming few days after he had claimed to have a lasting solution that would firm the Naira to an exchange rate of N200=$1 within 30 days.
Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the oil magnet noted that all he wanted from President Muhammadu Buhari to achieve the goal, was to be appointed a consultant on Financial Stability, without pay.
According to him, he had a four-point strategy to achieve the extra-ordinary feat but that he would not make them public unless appointed a consultant by the federal government.
His words, “What do we have to bring the exchange rate to N200=$1? I have four cardinal points, but I will not release them. I am a man brimming with confidence and ideas which is why I would dare to make such an audacious wager.
“Since my appearance and statement on Sunday night on Channels TV, Dollar has crashed from N400 to $1 to N370 to $1. Is this not enough evidence that this freefall of the Naira is artificial and could be better managed, with honesty and ingenuity?,” he queried.

Nigerians pay highest electricity tariffs in Africa – Group

Nigerians pay highest electricity tariffs in Africa – Group

Electricity
A consumer rights group, Consumer Rights Advancement Organisation, CRADO, has lamented that prior to the recent increment in electricity tariff; Nigerians had been paying the highest tariff per kilowatt in Africa and wondered what justification the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Company, NERC, has for effecting the hike.
It would be recalled that NERC had on February 1, commenced the implementation of new electricity tariff for residential and industrial users across the country. Under the new tariff regime, R2 customers covered by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, who currently pay N13.91 per kilowatt-hour (Kwh) will witness an increase by N9.60.
Consumers under the Eko and Ikeja electricity distribution areas who currently pay N12.87kWh and N13.61kWh respectively will witness a N10 and N8 increase respectively in their energy charges. Electricity consumers covered by Kaduna and Benin Discos who currently pay N16.90 Kwh and N12.54 kWh will witness an increase of N11.05 and N9.26 respectively in their energy charges.
For commercial consumers in Ibadan and Enugu who currently pay N25.18kWh and N24.01Kwh respectively, their energy charge will increase by N12.08 and N13.35 respectively.
But reacting in a statement issued over the weekend by its President, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, CRADO was assertive that, “before this increment, Nigerians have been paying the highest tariff per kilowatt in Africa and contiguous regions. We pay higher than Egypt and countries with stronger economies,’’ the statement said.
The group maintained that in view of the fact that metering is the contract equipment between the Electricity Distribution Companies, Discos, and electricity consumers; the Discos have continued to exploit Nigerians by the estimated and crazy billing system for majority of consumers, while deliberately refusing to make available prepaid meters.
The statement reads, ‘‘As there has been no significant improvement in service delivery, most consumers are also not metered in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of November 1, 2013, which stipulates that within 18 months gestation period, all consumers must have been metered.
“There are meter manufacturers in Nigeria producing all types of meters, various types of smart meters and transformers with the approval of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). It is highly unlawful and a flagrant abuse of consumer rights, for electricity consumers to pay the new tariff before getting the meters.
“Why should electricity tariff increase when the extant law for such increment was not followed in consonance with Section 76 of the Power Sector Reform Act, 2005,” CRADO queried.
The organization ended by calling on the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, to obey the subsisting No Increase in Electricity Tariff court order of May 28, 2015 by Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court in Lagos. It equally charged him to dialogue with financial institutions to increase their investments in the power business so that electricity generation can hit 7,500mw while ensuring that all electricity consumers are metered.

BUHARI’S FINANCE MINISTER COMPELS WAEC REGISTRAR TO PAY FUNDS TO NIGERIA GOVT ACCOUNT

BUHARI’S FINANCE MINISTER COMPELS WAEC REGISTRAR TO PAY FUNDS TO NIGERIA GOVT ACCOUNT

The full meaning of WAEC is West African Examination Council. Yet, buhari’s minister wants WAEC to be remitting its profits directly into Nigeria’s Federation account. This in effect means that Ghanaian government and all other West African governments will also make similar request.
To the current Minister of Finance, WAEC is the same as Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigerian Railway Corporation, JAMB, NNPC, PHCN, Nigerdock, Customs, Police, Immigration, Bank of Industries, Nigerian Television Authority, e.t.c. This phonetic woman is a perfect square peg in a triangle hole specially dug by no other person than buhari, and to cap it all – on merit.
It is clear that the baby-minister does not know the difference between NECO and WAEC. The WAEC Registrar who is definitely independent of Nigerian government, is so sure that Kemi does not know what she was scavenging into. that must have been the reason he rubbished her in the worst form anyone can think of.
Perhaps NECO is remitting part of its profit into federal government account. So the imported minister from UK is confused as to why WAEC should not do same.
I hope she will not wake up one day and ask Coca-Cola, Guinness, Shell, Mobil, Chevron, Julius Berger and other Multi-National companies operating in Nigeria to remit their profits into the Federation Account so that the president, governors and ministers can have some money to loot.
Please someone should tell the minister that WAEC is not the same with NECO and JAMB.

anti saraki protest

A group known as Open Society and Good Governance Initiative on Tuesday, embarked on a protest to the National Assembly, demanding that the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki be suspended instead of Kabiru Marafa who was being investigated by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions over Media interviews he granted to the media a fortnight ago.
The protesters bearing various placards with inscription “suspend Senator Bukola Saraki not Kabiru Marafa”, noted that the embattled Marafa was exercising his freedom of speech and opinion, and such must not incur the wrath of the Senate because as a Senator, it behoves on him to air his views on issues.
President of the group, Mr. Emeka Ude told DAILY POST that there was need to strengthen democracy by allowing free speech as enshrined in the Constitution, while also expressing disappointment over Dr. Bukola Saraki-led Senate’s attempt to shut down vibrant Senators instead of resigning his position as Senate President to face his trial at the CCT.
“We are here to protest because it was lawful for the likes of Senator Marafa to express his views and where that was considered as undermining the integrity of the Senate as was the case to the extent that they were considering suspension of Marafa was rather unfortunate”, Ude said.
He added: “Several Senators have made unpalatable comments on issues in the past and none was suspended for such. Was it because this one bothers on Car purchase which was meant to service their ego rather than National development?,” he asked.
Meanwhile the Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Samuel Anyanwu earlier submitted the report on Marafa during plenary. This follows the motion moved by Deputy Leader of the Senate, Bala Ibn ‘N’Allah and the motion was seconded by Senator David Umaru representing Niger East Senatorial District.
With the submission of Samuel Anyanwu’s report, the issue has now been set to be discussed by the Committee of the whole at any other plenary against the expectation that the Committee might have recommended his expulsion which should be pronounced today.

Militants threaten blow-up of more oil installations

Militants threaten blow-up of more oil installations

NIGER Delta Avengers, the militant group which claimed responsibility for blowing up the Forcados Terminal Pipeline in Delta State, recently, has served notice of attacks on more oil installations in the region until the Federal Government addresses its grievances. The group vowed: “Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, Forcados terminal is our latest casualty. There are many more to follow in the days and weeks ahead.”
The group, in a statement  obtained in Warri, said that it was prepared to reduce Nigeria’s daily oil production and supply to zero barrel if its agitation was ignored. “The same factor that brought about the Niger Delta arms struggle is fast resurfacing as the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is poised to exterminate Niger Delta people for being benevolent enough to allow the nation’s mono-economy thrive on our oil.
“We are being oppressed, pushed to the wall on various fronts, which is why we have picked up the challenge to be the outlaws this government will have to contend with till daily production of oil is reduced to zero in the Niger Delta, so government can use the oil from the North to run Nigeria’s mono-economy. “We believe that Nigeria can practice true federalism where our resources will be controlled by us and used for our own good. The reverse is the case today, where the goose that lays the golden egg is killed along with the egg,” they said.
